Ofsted Education inspection report, February 2025

Healthiness focuses on young people learning skills to keep them healthy including sleeping; eating and drinking; health and hygiene, first aid, and exercise.

Within this section, there are five programmes of learning. By completing these programmes, young people will acquire 16 healthiness habits and skills. The aim will be to acquire these habits to as high a standard as achievable and apply them throughout their daily life. Responsibility for delivery of the programmes of learning are split between our Care department and the PE team in our Education department.

These programmes of learning are:

  • Sleeping
  • Eating and drinking
  • Health and prevention
  • First aid
  • Exercise

Under each programme of learning there are skills to be learnt. These are selected based on the individual’s level of understanding and what is achievable for them. To support the learning, skill steps are used by the staff team to offer a consistent approach.

For example:

Area of learning: Healthiness

Programme of learning: Eating and drinking

Learning focus: Making healthy food choices

I can statement: I can identify several healthy items from a choice
