Job description

The role of Learning Facilitator – Land-based at Prior's Court

We are looking for a Vocational Instructor to join our Ofsted 'Outstanding' school (May 2022) and help transform the future for our young people.

You will be part of our Land-based Vocational Learning team teaching our young people skills in gardening, grounds maintenance, planting etc.

You’ll be working in each of our horticulture areas as well as the wider 52-acre site.

You will work alongside our team of Learning Specialists, which includes teachers, therapists, and behaviour support leads, as well as liaising closely with our young person wellbeing teams.

We are a well-resourced and well-equipped school, set in beautiful grounds in Hermitage, Berkshire. Our vision is for the young people we support to achieve health, happiness, independence, and work skills at the relevant levels.

You will work with amazing autistic children and young people, supportive colleagues, have access to professional development opportunities and have a good work/life balance.

Current vocational instructors are encouraged to apply, and a full induction is offered.

The successful candidate will be energetic, resilient, organised, flexible and able to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Follow and deliver planning as agreed with Learning Specialist
  • Adapt learning plans as relevant for groups of young people
  • Meet regularly with Learning Specialist to feedback and work collaboratively to improve outcomes
  • Complete attendance registers.
  • Ensure all young people's activity records are completed following each learning session
  • Record outcomes of learning activities
  • Use and help others to use schedules, visual structure, and communication systems to help young people understand and carry out tasks/activities successfully
  • Understand and support others to understand and implement young people’s This Is Me plans for areas of learning
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed keeping young people safe from risk of harm and/or abuse
  • Ensure young people’s health needs are met
  • Ensure regular contact is maintained with young people’s parents and key stakeholders

Qualifications/ experience

  • Experience of working with autistic children/young adults or experience of working within a special/complex needs environment.
  • Experience of following planning and delivering learning to individuals or small groups.
