A key aspect of the need for a bespoke performing arts centre is traditional arts spaces are not generally autism-friendly, particularly when it comes to lighting and sound.

But by having a purpose-built centre, it can be used as a base for research into how to support in the community arts spaces such as theatre and venues to become more autism-friendly.

Other areas for research include exploring the impact of music and drama on pre-verbal and non-verbal autistic people.

Listen to Sue Piper, our Director of Learning, explain about this in more detail.
