Prior’s Court are looking for a PBS Lead whose primary focus is to provide support for the management of behaviours that challenge and mental health problems for our young people; and to support our Autism Practitioners to ensure our young people grow and develop, encouraging each individual to achieve their aspirations and lead fulfilling and purposeful lives.

PBS Leads work with both education and care teams to positively and proactively promote a person–centred caring environment through the development and coaching of high standards of professional practice ensuring each young person’s personal care, social and emotional needs are met.

This role is ideal for individuals with an interest and experience in PBS and challenging behaviour, who have a passion for working with young people with Autism and are looking to take the next step in their careers.

About Prior's Court

Prior's Court was set up by Founding Patron Dame Stephanie Shirley, whose vision of a centre of excellence for children with autism became reality with the opening of Prior's Court School in 1999. We have since grown to support around 90 young people with autism aged between 5-25 years with the opening of Prior's Court Young Adult Provision in 2011.

Since opening, our support team has grown from around 20 to 500 and we have built a reputation as a leading edge educational, vocational, and residential facility for young people with autism. We are situated on 50 acres of parkland with various facilities including accommodation for our young people, a school with a wide range of facilities and offices.

The role of a Positive Behaviour Support Specialist

As one of the PBS Leads you will be responsible for overseeing the behavioural support and management for a caseload of young people, completing functional analyses, developing their Positive Behaviour Support Plans and promoting the implementation of our PBS learning programme.   

Alongside the relevant qualifications the role requires experience of working with young people in a direct supporting role and an understanding of the needs and difficulties of children and adults with autism, learning disabilities and mental health problems.

  • Create, deliver, monitor and evaluate behavioural interventions as part of individualised, person-centred PBS plans to support the needs of young people to improve their quality of life.
  • Regularly monitor incident reports and behaviour monitoring data. Use the data to inform the creation and evaluation of behavioural interventions.
  • Work directly with young people and mentor, coach and support staff to ensure the correct, consistent and high-quality implementation of the support plans, behavioural interventions and strategies and other interventions where appropriate. Recognise and challenge areas of poor practice and promote the use of least restrictive practices.
  • Have an active role within support meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Review behavioural incidents (including physical interventions) to assist with lesson learning and organisational and individual development.
  • Promote the welfare of the young people and respond appropriately to any concerns, following the organisations safeguarding procedures and policy.

We operate 52 weeks of the year, including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

A recognised and accredited Diploma or above in Positive Behaviour Support.

OR

Experience of creating, implementing and evaluating PBS plans in a PBS service, including observation and functional assessment.
