Careers Day returned to Prior’s Court on Wednesday, 26 June with representatives from Thames Valley Police, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Newbury Buses and more joining Prior’s Court teams to put on activities.

Careers Day at Prior’s Court is not necessarily about showing the autistic young people with complex needs we support possible future careers for them. It is about young people exploring the world of work, what people do for jobs out in the community, and roles young people might not otherwise encounter.

Activities included:

  • Our on-site bakery team providing a cake decorating activity.
  • Our on-site decorator doing artwork using templates.
  • Staff from our catering contractor Sodexo putting on pizza-making workshops.
  • Our Nursing team demonstrating some of their work
  • Our Marketing team exploring different types of photography.
  • Our IT teacher using Virtual Reality to explore work.
  • Lizzie Lewis, a theatre/music performer, putting on specially adapted performances of The Gingerbread Man

While young people could also explore a police car, fire engine and a bus.The firefighters also offered a chance to cool off on a sweltering day by showing off their water wall.
